Latest Brexit Info from the French Government

Here is the latest press release from the French government regarding Brexit and the subsequent changes to Brits’ residency status following.

How to prepare for Brexit?

Following ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement, the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union is effective as of 1 February 2020. This agreement provides for a transition period until 31 December 2020 during which all your rights as UK nationals are maintained.

In application of the Withdrawal Agreement, you will only be required to hold a residence permit marked “Withdrawal Agreement” from 1st July 2021.

To enable you to apply for your residence permit online in advance, a new version of the website, adapted to the provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement, will be accessible from July 2020.

However, because the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, British citizens (except British citizens who also have French nationality) will no longer be able to vote or be a candidate in local elections (élections municipales) and European elections organised in France.
