Silent Phone Calls in France Could Clone Your Voice
If you’ve recently answered a call from an unknown number and heard… nothing—you’re not alone. And it may not be harmless.
A new phone scam is spreading across France, using AI voice cloning, and it starts with what’s known as a “silent call.”

How it works:
- You receive a call from an unknown number
- You answer… but no one speaks
- Most people instinctively say “Hello?”
That’s all scammers need.
Your voice—even just a word or two—can be recorded and cloned using AI. From there, it may be used to:
- Impersonate you with family or friends
- Create fake emergencies to ask for money
- Access sensitive information
Why it’s tricky:
These calls don’t always come from suspicious or hidden numbers, so they can look completely normal.
What to do:
- Don’t speak if there’s silence on the line
- Avoid saying “yes” or giving any information
- Hang up immediately
- When in doubt, don’t answer unknown numbers
A simple “hello” could be enough for scammers to use your voice — stay silent and hang up.
