Affordable travel to Barcelona

Buses

You’ve likely already seen the bright green Flix buses when out and about driving on our P-O motorways. The global leader in road passenger transport connects Perpignan to major cities across Europe including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Prague and more.

As of yesterday (20th July), Flixbus have announced an ever higher frequency service to Barcelona, with a whopping 21 daily journeys in both directions.

Company director, Yvan Lefrance-Morin, says Flixbus wants to create a flexible, reliable shuttle service between North and South Catalonia.

From Perpignan, passengers can reach Barcelona Sants station or the El Prat airport, with an average journey time of 2 – 2.5 hours. What’s more, Lefrance-Morin says the ticket prices are “unbeatable”, with singles from just 4€99 available online or via the app (Android / Apple).

Trains

France’s train provider, SNCF, have long been running trains between Perpignan and Barcelona, but were criticised for an impractical timetable (leaving too late and returning too early to allow for a day in either city), and unaffordable tickets.

Spain’s state-owned railway company, Renfe, have seized this gap in the market and since the 13th July, have been offering high-speed travel for as little as just 9€!

En route to Barcelona, the trains will stop in Figuères and Girona, before heading on to Tarragona, Zaragoza and Madrid. On our side of the border, Renfe will also connect Perpignan to 10 other stations: Narbonne, Béziers, Nîmes, Avignon, Valence, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Montpellier and Lyon!

Renfe spokespeople have indicated that a route to Paris is also in the pipeline, or should we say trainline?
