Birth of a Baby ‘Panthère de l’Amour!
Did you know that the Amur panther is the MOST endangered cat in the world, close to extinction, with less than 100 existing in the wild. In fact, since 2023 there have only been 3 births – one in France and two in England, so it was with great pride that wildlife park Ecozonia in Cases-de-Pène announced the birth of a male baby in March, despite the great sadness of losing the mother, Zyra.
The story
On June 1, 2024, Igor, male Amur panther, arrived at EcoZonia from Norway as a mate for Ecozonia female Zyra.
As soon as she saw Igor, she fell in love and soon became pregnant.
In March, just 13 days after the birth, the team were devasted when Zyra passed away as a result of an infection.
The first 48 hours after her death were extremely difficult, as the baby refused to drink from a bottle.
By the end of the 3rd day, he accepted the bottle, and has grown steadily since then, now weighing in at a healthy 2.5kg, and becoming more and more alert.
