Fête de la Libération

A powerful weekend of remembrance and celebration comes to Canet-en-Roussillon, marking the anniversary of the Liberation and the end of WWII in Europe.

This special event honours those who fought for freedom while bringing history to life for all generations. Visitors are invited to experience an immersive programme of historical re-enactments, military parades and live entertainment in a vibrant and engaging setting.

🎖️ A Living Tribute to History

At the heart of the event is a full-scale reconstructed American military camp, set up at the Théâtre de la Mer. Created by passionate history enthusiasts, the camp offers a fascinating glimpse into life during the Second World War.

Visitors can explore an impressive collection of authentic military vehicles, including:

• Sherman M4 tanks
• M8 armoured cars
• Willys jeeps
• Military Dodges
• Motorcycles and sidecars

Participants dressed in original WWII uniforms will be on hand to share stories, demonstrations and insights into the daily lives of soldiers.

🚛 Spectacular Military Parades

One of the highlights of the weekend is the series of military vehicle parades, offering a unique journey back in time.

Historic convoys of tanks, jeeps and military vehicles will pass through the town at the following times:

• Canet-Village – Friday 8 May at 11:00
• Canet-Plage – Friday 8 May at 11:00 and 16:00

🎶 Music & Atmosphere

Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy a lively and convivial atmosphere with:

• music from the 1940s
• iconic wartime songs
• live entertainment
