Le Village de Noël, le Barcarès

Have you been good this Christmas? If you have, you deserve a treat, so how about a visit to the ‘Village de Noël ‘in Le Barcarès.? (and even if you’ve been bad….well, it’s Christmas!)

This winter feast just gets better and better every year! This year, the entertainment extravaganza spreads across the sprawling gardens of the Lydia and overflows to the Christmas market in place de République (village) and the Smurf Experience is Mas de l’Ille!

The festivities continue until mid January, so if you haven’t made plans for New Year’s Eve yet, there’s an idea to welcome in 2022.

You don’t need to head for the mountains to enter an enchanting winter wonderland. It’s right here by the beach! Alpine chalets, snow covered pine forest, penguins, (and loads of other surprises), two ice skating rinks providing supervised skating for all levels…and even an ice museum with some amazing ice sculptures.

Whizz down the purpose-built sledge run, check out the animal park and the funfair, soar high above the chalets on the grande roue, try the kids’ electric quad bikes, marvel at the Santa parades and fireworks…

And of course the Lydia. All dressed up in her finest, she is centre stage for showcasing the local wines and specialities of this beautiful region.

With bars and restaurants open til late…it’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

Le Lydia

This 1931-built, 100 metre Steamship is beached in the sands of Le Barcarès, serving as part of the resort – with spa, nightclub, bars, restaurants, etc. since June 1967.

Originally providing an Australian coastal passenger service, she was withdrawn in 1955 and was used for travel from Marseilles to Egypt via Italy and Greece.

Refitted to carry 460 passengers, she was laid up at Piraeus. Her engines were removed and she was towed to Le Barcarès where a special basin was cut into the sands and filled in, making her a permanent fixture in the Mediterranean resort.

Onboard this Christmas, don’t miss a selection of tempting Catalan and regional culinary delights – as well as great artisanal gifts to buy for you and your loved ones!
