Maison de l’Histoire
Summer exhibition : 19th May – 4th August 2021
As immigrants ourselves, we are well placed to appreciate how the Roussillon is a land of welcome and transition. As such, the summer exhibition may well strike a cord.
Discover the region’s long and rich history as an area of travel, transit and trade with the rest of the world.
Follow the surprising and varied routes, including the Via Domitia and the maritime links between Port Vendres and Algeria.
This cross-border territory is not only a strategic place of travel, but also the site of major historical events: the Pyrenees Treaty in 1659, the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, the arrival of Menton refugees in 1940, economic migration linked to the exploitation of iron, and so much more!
Permanent exhibition
Find out more about the 18th century Battle of Le Boulou, when the French Republican Army defeated the Spanish Royalists.
It’s free – and Nathalie will enjoy showing you around the small museum in French or English.
