New Stamp for Py and Collioure

On Sunday 14th October, at the Augustin Hanicotte Cultural Centre in Collioure, a brand new stamp, commemorating the work of Marcel PY, will go on sale.

From 9am to 1pm, as part of the XIth Multi-collections Exchange, you can purchase a book of four 1st class stamps (Lettre Prioritaire) or a sheet of ten 2ndclass stamps (Lettre Verte).

Marcel PY

Marcel PY owned a hair salon at the Port of Avall in Collioure. Looking out over the bay, he had a privileged view of the town’s emblematic bell tower.

Inspired and enamored with the beautiful architecture, over the years, he created and painted many plaster sculptures.

The one that has been chosen for the new stamp was created in 1981. Entitled ‘COLLIOURE L’Eglise’, the sculpture measures 44 × 12.5cm and stands 30cm high on a varnished wooden base.

While picking up your stamps, you can view the original work which is housed in the salle François Bernandi of the cultural centre. You can also view his major work, an impressive reconstruction of the bell tower, standing proud at 1.64m high!
