The Prix de Collioure at Galerie Tenyidor
with Ellen Turner
The Galerie Tenyidor in CollioureCollioure is host to the works of three young artists who have been selected for this year’s Prix de Collioure. Each one interprets the theme of “light” in his unique style.
Océane Moussé, the third prize winner, draws in India ink on white paper. Her landscapes are inspired by nature, its themes and variations, its movement and stillness, its lights and darks. Exploring all the possibilities of a simple black line on a flat piece of paper, Moussé evokes jagged rock formations, splashing water and blinding sunlight.
Géraldine Stringer employs blue ball-point and felt-tip pens to suggest a stand of wild grasses bending in the wind or the outline of a chateau floating on water. Her sure lines and masterful sense of proportion lend a sense of monumentality to her minimal views of the Côte Vermeille.
The winner of the first prize, Kevin Pinsembert paints with large splashes of colour as in the poster for the exhibition. Inspired by the garden of the cloisters of the museum, Pinsembert’s subjects include lush greenery and fantastical medieval beasts.
One regrets that the hanging of the works seems so disjointed. Grouping together each artist’s production might have presented the viewer with a clearer understanding of each individual’s range and force.
The exhibition runs until 17 May.
