Your Euros Are Getting a Makeover – Have Your Say!

Ever wondered who decides what goes on our euro banknotes? Well, you can have a say this time!

The European Central Bank (ECB) is planning a brand-new series of eluro banknotes and is asking Europeans to vote for their favourite designs.

You have until 21 September 2026 to take part, and the survey only takes a few minutes.

So, what’s changing?

The ECB is working on a new generation of banknotes to make them more secure, easier to use and more environmentally friendly.

But don’t panic if you’ve just found a forgotten €20 note in the back of a drawer! The current banknotes aren’t disappearing overnight. They will remain valid and in circulation for several more years.

What could the new notes look like?

Two themes have been chosen:

European culture – celebrating the people, places and cultural heritage that connect Europeans.

Rivers and birds – highlighting Europe’s natural landscapes and wildlife.

The proposals cover all six denominations currently in circulation: €5, €10, €20, €50, €100 and €200.

The ECB has selected ten possible design concepts and is now asking the public to choose their favourites.

You can take part in the ECB’s online consultation until 21 September 2026. It’s quick and easy, and your opinion will help influence the final designs.

The ECB is expected to make its final decision by the end of 2026.

Of course, you won’t be paying for your croissants with a brand-new €10 note anytime soon. Once the designs have been chosen, it will still take several years to produce and introduce the new banknotes.
