Danny Boy, Barry Walsh
Although not a permanent inhabitant of P-O, much of Barry Walsh’s latest novel, Danny Boy (HarperCollins) was written at his apartment in Argelès-sur-Mer, which he has owned since 2002.
Synopsis
Danny Byrne has grown up on a sprawling council estate in Pimlico, London in the ‘swinging’ 1960s. Until now, his life has followed the same pattern as all his friends but he is heading for A-levels and then university. Among his friends, Dodds is following his dad into the family business, Crockett will sail on opportunity’s wings, and Nobby is flirting with drugs, and disaster.
As the long summer unfolds, the teenagers focus on girls, trade banter and test their friendships to the limit. When things take a dark turn, Danny must wrestle with his conscience and is pushed to breaking point. Can Danny find love and work out what is important to become the kind of man he wants to be?
