CSF NEWSLETTER: JUNE 2023

1st June 2023 - 30th June 2023

Hello Everyone

Oh dear what a sorry state of affairs my garden was when I returned from a two week holiday.  The D word has been bandied about for a while so I wasn’t surprised.  Or was I – it was, after all, raining!  Showing off their drought-proof resilience were the the two olive trees and a very bushy fig tree, both trying their best to out-do the agapanthuses.  My dependable African Lillies cast aside their yellow droopy leaves of winter and boldly pushed up dark green foliage as if to say, look at us and look no further.  Those beautiful lavender blue clusters of floral greatness come up every year, rain or no rain.

TOMBOLA PRIZES

We are in need of Tombola prizes and bottles for the Walk for Life in September and the Autumn Ball in October.

Reach into the back of your cupboard and see if you have anything which we can put on our tables.  Unused presents or anything in good condition which you think we could use for our raffles.  Bottles of any size or shape, plastic or glass – orange juice or jam, washing-up liquid or a bottle of Beaujolais.

Just bring them along to our Drop Ins or events or email me to arrange collection.  Many thanks for all your support

ENGLISH GREETINGS CARDS!

Some of you may know our friend Shirley Morton.  She has very kindly donated some really good quality English cards – cards for lots of different occasions and beautifully designed boxes of note cards.

We intend to bring the cards along to most of our events and Drop Ins –  I hope you will be tempted to have a look at them.  The prices range from 2€ to 5€ and, of course, we are always happy to accept a donation.

Drop Ins

Wednesday 7 June, Pablo’s Bar, Céret, 10.30

Come along for coffee and chat. There will also be books and Céret is a great place to meet up with friends.

Wednesday 17 May, Villa Lafabrègue, Prades, 10.15

Catch up with friends at this splendid villa. It’s in a beautiful area on the edge of the village. This month we have Greg Jamison talking about DRY GARDENING. Coffee, tea and books and maybe a few cakes.

Wednesday 14 June, Café des Artistes, Laroque des Albères, 10.15

Come along and buy a coffee and take away a book or two. If you have books to bring, they must be paperbacks please. No large books and no hardbacks or non-fiction.

Looking ahead

Thursday 7th September, Walk for Life, Maureillas

Our Walk for Life will be at Prat De La Farga again this year.

This is always a very well-supported event with two walks to choose from – an easy one and a not so easy one. The only information we have so far is that the long walk will be 9kms.

It’s a fun day for all ages! There will be a game of pétanque, various stalls, a Tombola and music.

We walk in the morning and then enjoy a picnic lunch together. More details to come but please make a note of the date!

Saturday 7th October, Autumn Ball, Bages, 7pm – Midnight

It’s been too long since the last Autumn Ball.

We’re in the early stages of preparation for the Autumn Ball but I can tell you that there’ll be music, dancing, raffle prizes, tapas, wine, beer and much more. Entry will be by tickets purchased before the Ball.  These will be on sale later in the year.  You will also be able to reserve a table for up to 10 people so please tell your friends and put the date in your diary.
