International Women’s Day 2024 will be held on Friday 8th March, with activities taking place throughout the week.

Women in France had to wait until 1944 to win the right to vote, and 1945 for the right to exercise it. In 2023, 103 femicides were recorded on French soil and if current trends continue, the gender pay gap here will not be closed until 2234!

Similar statistics can be found around Europe and there have been several important international gender equality movements over recent years, including #MeToo and #TimesUp.

Although these campaigns gave an indication of the worrying extent of the problem, they also showed the huge global support for finding a solution.

As the IWD group says, we cannot be complacent. We must continue to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and communities, celebrating women’s achievements and tenaciously challenge bias.
