Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh
An artist overshadowed by her husband
In the P-O, many people are aware of the inspired watercolours of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, thanks to the diligent work of the Association C.R. Mackintosh in Roussillon. In Britain, most people know of Mackintosh’s architectural and design accomplishments.
But his wife, Margaret Macdonald, has been overlooked. Few people realise that she was a proficient artist herself and collaborated extensively with Charles Rennie.
Not only that, but thanks to her language and organisational skills, she was able to arrange for them to travel to France, finally settling in Port Vendres for two years from 1925.
