Johnny and Jean-Philippe

Johnny Hallyday never really made it on the international scene – but in France he was a total teen idol, a leader in the 60s of what was known as  the “yé-yé” era of French pop, and the king of French rock and roll.

Some say that his very ‘Frenchness’ was a great part of his success. He made his name from reinterpreting American pop for a French audience, singing many of the American greats in French and bringing rock culture to the French-speaking world. He sold more than 110 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artistes in the world. LISTEN TO LE PENITENCIER. Recognise it?

He passed away in December 2017 at the age of 74.

Jean-Philippe Bourcier from Céret pays homage to Johnny in his album Que Nous Restera-t-il.

In this enjoyable taster video, residents of and visitors to the Vallespir  will not only enjoy the music but will also recognise the stunning locations in the background.
