UPDATE

Voting begins on Monday 9th May until 10th June and all residents of the  Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées over 15 may vote.

Voting from abroad will probably not be possible as Internet voters will receive a code on their mobiles to add to the online form. This will only work with French mobiles. Voters who don’t wish to vote by Internet can use a paper form to be found in the next regional magazine.

The final name will be revealed on 24th June from the following five finalists.

♥ Languedoc
♥ Languedoc – Pyrénées
♥ Occitanie
♥ Occitanie – Pays Catalan
♥ Pyrénées – Méditerranée.

Three regions have already chosen their new name. La Normandie for Haute et Basse Normandie,  les Hauts de France for le Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie and Grand Est for l’Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine. Ile-de-France, Bretagne, PACA, Pays-de-la-Loire, Centre-Val-de-Loire won’t be changing their names.

The Indépendant might just have a point though…..

“Si l’on voulait faire du mauvais esprit, une synthèse appropriée et convenant à tout le monde aurait pu être finalement Languedoc-Roussillon, mais voilà qui aurait sans doute fait gagner trop de temps”.

DO YOU HAVE ANY GREAT IDEAS FOR THE NEW NAME OF THE LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON-MIDI-PYRÉNÉES?

You can now go ONLINE, and add your suggestion to a ‘consultation citoyenne’ form.

This first phase in the renaming, launched this week, “permet à chacune et à chacun de proposer un nom et nourrir ainsi la réflexion du «Comité du Nom de la Région», puis de l’Assemblée régionale”. (loosely translated as ‘allows everyone to suggest a name)
The second phase from April 15 will be the submission of a shortlist of names to the Assemblée régionale, who will then look at ways of putting this list before the residents of the region, and giving them a chance to vote on their choice of name.
The final phase will be the decision of the regional assembly, following this citizen consultation, and state confirmation of the new name before October 1, 2016.

Phew! Don’t like to be negative but It all sounds like a lot of extra work to me!!
