Your Restaurant Reviews
FIRST OF ALL, A BIG BIG THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO REGULARLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE REVIEW SECTION IN THE MAGAZINE. YOUR COMMENTS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED BY OTHER READERS – AND BY THE RESTAURANTS THEMSELVES
With the summer season upon us, we’ll all be out and about sampling the mouth-watering menus at our region’s many, many, many restaurants.
If you find somewhere that really tickles your tastebuds, here or over the border, be sure to snap a pic, jot a few lines and send over your reviews to info@anglophone-direct.com. We’ll feature them in the next mag!
It might be for good food, value for money, fun for kids, great for vegetarians, fantastic views, friendly service… or just a bit of a leg up to get a restaurant known in these difficult times.
Doesn’t need to be a literary masterpiece, just your own honest comments.
Taaaaaaaa!
Restaurant Reviews – Summer 2024
These reviews are uncensored and unchecked, written BY readers FOR readers. We love publishing them. They’re honest (mostly!) objective, (we hope) unrelated to advertising (bien sûr!) and cover a wide range of tastes, prices, and places.
You might not always agree, the chef might be having a bad day, your standards might be higher… or lower, the reviewer might even have exaggerated a little under the rose-tinted influence of a rich Roussillon red too many – but they give you an idea of what’s available.
Bon appétit.
Quattrocento, Céret… with Steven
Had some brilliant nights there, such a humble, friendly place in the beautiful Place des Neuf Jets, great acoustics when they have live musicians. Highly recommended, good grub, great fun

Maison Paré, Perpignan… with Jan
Lunch at Maison Paré near the car concessions. Booked almost solid every day so we were lucky to get a table at the bar. Mainly a meat restaurant and they cook almost all of it on coal. The table at the bar is great to watch the kitchen in action! We took the menu de jour entree/plat – carrots three ways or carpaccio de duck, followed by secreto iberique with mash or chicken with prawns and a prawn sauce. 19 euros well spent for 2 courses. Some of the biggest ribs of beef ever recorded were being flung onto the grill with gay abandon and coming out still in flames to be carved. Would definitely recommend, plus there is the butcher counter where you can buy more of what you’ve just enjoyed. Wish we’d been there sooner.

Restaurant le Catalan, Laroque des Albères… with Cilla
Good food and friendly service in the atmospheric old part of the town. My steak was cooked exactly as I wanted it and our chosen red wine (chosen from a very good wine list) was delicious and reasonably priced. Always busy on summer evenings and for good reason. We recommend this restaurant without hesitation and will certainly be returning!

La Rouillade, Argelès sur Mer… with Sophie
Located in a quiet area close to the beach, this was a great discovery. The owner, Paul, created this restaurant alongside his father to offer mussels, specifically ‘moules La Rouillade.’ Everything is homemade, and the owners are very friendly. It was a wonderful time spent eating outdoors with family. It’s worth mentioning that they are half French, half German.

L’Entrepôtes, Sainte Marie la Mer… with Marc
A delightful dining experience with its delicious cuisine, exceptionally friendly service, and a very relaxed atmosphere. Notably, one of the staff members speaks Dutch, adding a comforting touch for Dutch-speaking visitors. This charming eatery is an excellent choice for those looking for a welcoming place with great food and a laid-back vibe.

Le Bouillon Marinade, Collioure… with Caroline
New in Collioure and will be open all year round! A great place to eat good food on the terrace or inside, with good value for money. It may take some time, if it is full, but cooking needs it and enjoying a meal in good company can last! I am not sure about the staff speaking English, so may be the opportunity to practice your best French

Shanghai Chinese Buffet, Argelès sur Mer… with Liz
Went for Sunday lunch at this fixed price menu where you can eat as much or as little as you want. Very good quality food. Hadn’t been for a while but I was very impressed with the food, atmosphere and service. Would highly recommend.

O Grain de Sel, Perpignan… with Harbour
A young chef owner who is also your server, very serious, committed and well trained. A small place with limited seating, reservations a must. A very good effort and we would go back to try other dishes. Dishes well seasoned and flavoured.

Fresh local produce and delicious – run by Julien and Leti. Despite the rain there were 20 people there for lunch today!

Camping de la Lyre, Corsavy… with Linda
New owners this season, a young enthusiastic couple very anxious to please. Delicious home made pizzas and probably one of the best burgers I have ever had! Irish sourced beef with grilled onions, bacon and cheese from La Cazette, the sheep farm up the hill. Certainly recommend them if you are heading up into the mountains north of Arles!!

Excellent lunch and if you have coeliac disease or are gluten free I highly recommend this restaurant. Starter main and pudding all gluten free and delicious. From fish dishes to paella to pizzas (which aren’t gluten free) everything was well cooked and the service was excellent.
