There are loads of different ways of improving your French. We all learn differently, but as we grow older, one of the greatest blocks to learning is memory. And yet many of us can still sing along to new songs – and remember the words!

Here’s another in the Sing it series……and most of you will recognise it immediately. The sentiment is the same, the lyrics, adapted of course to suit the music, are sometimes a little ‘crammed in’ – but the tune is pure Abba!

This French version was brought out by Mireille Mathieu in 1981, in collaboration with ABBA themselves, who both produced it and sang in the backing group.

With classic urchin hairdo, pretty chanteuse Mireille was hailed as the next Edith Piaf and quickly became an international star in Europe. Unusual at that time, she was even a great chart success in 1967 in Britain with her cover of Englebert Humperdinck’s “The Last Waltz” (La Derniere Valse)
