CSF NEWSLETTER: SEPTEMBER 2024

1st September - 30th September

Hello Everyone

I’ve been too busy to get on my bike or go for a walk so the vendange has taken me by surprise this year. Last time I cycled past the local vineyard, the grapes were small and rather green. I do love the way the viticulteurs pop in a few roses at the end of each row – I read that they act as early warning systems for growers worried about aphids and fungal diseases. Rather like taking a canary down a coal mine I guess.

I have no shame in admitting that I adore the sunny weather and the heat. I am of course sad that my garden is visibly gasping for water but I know David Attenborough would agree with me when I say that the plants will adapt and the fittest will survive.

Drop Ins

Wednesday 4 September, Pablo’s Bar, Céret, 10.30

Come along for coffee and chat. There will also be books of course and Céret is a great place to meet up with friends.

Monday 16 September, Café des Artistes, Laroque des Albères, 10.15

Come and have a browse through our large selection of paperbacks. Any books you bring along for exchange will be gratefully received. We can’t take hardbacks or non-fiction books I’m afraid. Bring a friend and stay for coffee.

Wednesday 18 September, Villa Lafabrègue, Prades

We are open again for business! Come and have coffee with us at this lovely venue.

Tickets for the Fête Octobre Rose will be on sale at these Drop Ins. Cash or cheques acceptable. Also please bring bottles for our Tombola table – anything in a bottle or jar would be very much appreciated. (see below for more details)

Looking ahead

October Rose – Les Jeudis Roses de la Clinique 2024, Oct 3, 10, 17 & 24 : 11am – 4pm

4 Thursdays of talks, workshops and conferences about breast cancer

🎗 To support Pink October, the SOA (Soins d’Onco-Accompagnement) joins with PINK THURSDAYS in Perpignan at the Clinique St Pierre.

SOA 66, based in Perpignan, offers support to people with cancer throughout the Pyrénées-Orientales. It gives supportive care to patients being treated in Oncology and/or Hematology in the form of alternative, complementary care, as well as financial support. The objective is to inform patients, health professionals and visitors of the actions proposed by the association.

A detailed programme will be available later on in the year.

CSF will have a stand and we’ll be handing out leaflets and chatting mostly to medical people, letting them know what CSF is about and how we can help English speaking patients.

Thank you to those who have volunteered to help out but we could still do with one or two others so if anyone can do an hour or two in the morning or afternoon, we’d very much appreciate it. Please contact Phil O’Neill philomeneoneill@gmail.com

Saturday 5 October, Fête October Rose, 12pm

TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE!

Our Autumn event this year will be a LUNCH AT THE DOMAINE MAS ALART. This vineyard has been there since 1897 and is set in the heart of the Roussillon plain.

As you know, the Octobre Rose campaign makes it possible to raise awareness and inform and encourage screening in the fight against breast cancer. As our event takes place at this particular time of year, we thought it would be appropriate to name it Fête October Rose.

The afternoon will begin with a fizzy apéro and continue with lunch – Tapas followed by Paella and a dessert. Wine will be served of course and there will be music from our friends Zircon. Dancing will be encouraged. There will be prizes to be won on the TOMBOLA plus a surprise draw at the end. Fun for everyone.

Tickets cost 20€ and the ticket office will close on October 3rd.

You can email me for tickets (eastaffdiana@gmail.com) or buy them at any of our events. Remember to bring your tickets with you on the day.

We would be very grateful for your donations for our Tombola table. Anything in a bottle or jar. Unwanted gifts: Candles, soaps, bath oils etc. Please bring them to one of our Drop Ins or just email me and I will arrange pick up. Thank you
