Olympic Torch Passes through the P-O
En route to Paris for the 2024 games, the Olympic Torch will pass through our region on Wednesday 15th May.
An historic occasion whether you’re a sporting fan or not, the Olympic flame has been a symbol of peace and friendship between nations since ancient times.
Lit today (16th April) in Olympia, Greece, the flame will slowly make it’s way north, ready for the Opening Ceremony at the Stade de France in Paris on Friday 26th July.
The route
From Olympia, the flame will make its way to Athens, from where it will board the Belem on 27th April, bound for Marseille.

It weaves its way through the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region before arriving in our own Occitanie (Milau-Sète-Montpellier) on stage 5 on 13th May.
After a quick jaunt over to Corsica on 14th May, it arrives in the Pyrénées-Orientales on 15th May.
As with any important event in the P-O, the flame will begin it’s P-O journey at day break from the summit of Canigou, before making its way down to Perpignan via Prades, Font Romeu, Céret, Villeneuve de la Raho, Port Vendres and Collioure.
From us, the flame passes through Carcassonne and Toulouse, up into the Haut-Pyrénées and over into the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

Party in Perpignan
Although there will obviously be festivities and celebrations in all of the towns along the route, the big party for our département will take place in Perpignan.
The route through the city is as follows:
- Parc des Sports
- Citadelle
- Castillet
- Place de la Catalogne
The final stop on the P-O stage will be the magnificent Palais des Rois de Majorque, where the party will go on until late.
