Trobada Marinera & Aplec, Argelès sur Mer

1st September 2017 - 3rd September 2017

Trobada Marinera & Aplec

Following the successful boating event, Les Nautiques, back in June, the Trobada Marinera, held from the 1st to the 3rd September, will once again see the port of Argelès in full party mode; this time, with a distinctly Catalan flavour.

Over 30 traditional barques catalans and llaguts de rems will assemble over the course of the weekend to provide nautical entertainment for the whole family.

The festival will officially start with the inauguration at 10.30am on Saturday but from the Friday and throughout the weekend you can expect regattas, daily contests, musical aperitifs, evening concerts, information stands and sales of clothing and accessories.

Don’t miss the wreath laying ritual on Sunday at 11am, when all participants, dressed in traditional 19th century costume form a procession, first by boat and then by foot through the streets.

An ‘aplec’ is a Catalan gathering or mass meeting, traditionally used to involve a religious pilgrimage to a chapel or a hermitage, usually on a Saint’s day or religious festival when the heavens were likely to be at their most receptive! Today the term is also used for more popular get-togethers such as the meeting of dancers to perform the Sardane.

This year’s Aplec will start at 10.30am at the Parking des Pins on Sunday 3rd September and will see over 300 participants, both Catalan and non-Catalan, dance 5 sardanes in the morning and 12 in the afternoon! So strap on your espadrilles and get involved!
