CSF NEWSLETTER: SEPTEMBER 2018

Event Navigation
Hello Everyone
We’ve had hailstones as big as tennis balls in some parts of France! Temperatures of 40° have got people wondering whether they should move to the mountains! I adore the sun and the heat. For many it’s a good excuse to close the shutters after lunch and take a long siesta. I live on the edge of a busy village but if I sneak into the garden at 3.30 it’s as if the whole town is sleeping – they’re missing the beautiful blue sky, the swooping swifts and the wonderful warmth of that golden sun.
Rowan Wools and Knitting Cotton – a donation
We haven’t had any response to this – if you know anyone who is a knitter please tell them about this offer from a CSF supporter who is looking for a good home for a large bag of assorted wools and knitting cotton. There are several cones of cotton and wool, some cashmere, some mohair, and lots of assorted balls. These are good quality yarns, mostly from Rowan, plus some Rowan pattern books.
As a way of raising money, we thought it would be a nice idea to ask anyone who is interested to make us an offer. The money from the highest bidder will be put into the CSF donation box.
If you would like to make an offer please email Lynn (lynnrhall66@gmail.com) as soon as possible

Thursday 6 September – WALK FOR LIFE – Maureillas – Prats de Farga – all day
It’s almost time for our Walk for Life event ! Have a look at our poster below.
This is the P.O.’s own fund-raising event for the Activity for Life campaign run by Cancer Support France and La Ligue Contre le Cancer, which takes place throughout the country.
There will be 2 sponsored walks. Walk 1 of between 8 – 10 kms and Walk 2 a shorter stroll of 5 kms. Both walks will have experienced walk leaders. Dogs on leads will be welcome to walk with their owners.
You can pay €5 to do the walk or you can rustle up some sponsorship. Please don’t hesitate to email Lynn (lynnrhall66@gmail.com) who can send you all the details.
Prat de la Farga is not far from the Le Boulou exit of the A9. It’s the lovely open space at the entrance to Maureillas as you approach it from Céret.
Looking Ahead
Saturday 13 October – AUTUMN BALL – Bages – 7.30pm
I’ve attached a poster for this years Autumn Ball.
This is the event of the season! A relaxed evening, sitting with friends and joining in the fun. It’s also an important fund-raising event with prizes to be won on the Tombola and the Bottle Raffle, plus of course our Auction of Promises. Out of the money we raise, we always split what we make on the Tombola with La Ligue Contre le Cancer. We very much hope we can count on your support again this year.
Music from the band Zircon will accompany us throughout and beyond.
There’s a Tapas style meal, a dessert plus a glass of wine and wine, beer and soft drinks will be on sale at the bar.
We can’t do this without your help. We would be very grateful for donations for our bottle and tombola stalls. Unused and unopened bottles can be filled with anything – wine, water, shampoo, tomato ketchup – plastic or glass. For the tombola we are looking for unopened gifts or unused knick-knacks e.g. household items, jewellery, china, scarves, etc. It would be great if you could bring your donation along to one of the Drop Ins or just drop me a line and we can arrange a pick up.
