Charity Fundraising for Chapelle Saint Jerôme, Argelès
8th October 2017 at 17h00 - 19h00
Charity Fund Raising Concert in Argelès
Nestled in the foothills of the Albères mountains, the Chapelle Saint Jerôme dates as far back as the 10th century, combining Roman and pre-Roman building techniques. Over the course of the centuries, the heritage site has been battered by the region’s fierce weather and is now in desperate need of some TLC.
Major renovation works are under way. L’Association Touristique pour la Sauvegarde des Ermitages has set in motion the first stage of an extensive repair programme. The tiny (7m!) chapel is currently undergoing a complete makeover of its façades, where rainwater has eroded the mortar holding together the stonework. A second stage is planned, but the chapel needs your help!
The association is now calling on you to help finance the remaining rehabilitation project. Including works to the roofing and the supporting walls, not to mention the painting and preservation of the frescos adorning the interior, the projected cost of the project is no less than 102,170€, 10.24% of which is paid for by the local council.
To cover the remaining sum, you are cordially invited to take part in a concert at the Eglise Notre Dame del Prat. On Sunday 8th October, from 5pm, lose yourself in the beautiful acoustics as the Barcelona-based Trio Concertanti performs a repertoire from Saint-Saëns, Fauré and Tchaïkovski. Entry is free but you are kindly asked to make a donation by following this link.
