Hallo Everyone

September certainly has proved to be month of contrasts weatherise. Am I the only one to start the day staring into a summer wardrobe before hunting for a sweater? Myself I’m loving the cooler weather, after some rain, just to see my garden recovering and plants flowering again.

Drop Ins

Wednesday 1st October, Bar le Pablo, Céret, 10.30

Come along for a coffee and a chat. There will be some paperbacks to exchange and friendly faces on the terrace in the shade – or perhaps inside if it rains.

Wednesday 15th October, Villa Lafabrègue, Prades

Come and have coffee with us at this lovely venue, and bring a paperback or two to exchange.

Monday 20th October, Café des Artistes, Laroque des Albères, 10.15

Come and browse through our large selection of paperbacks. Any books you bring along for exchange will be gratefully received. Sorry, but we cannot take hardbacks or non-fiction. Bring a friend and stay for a coffee.

Events this month

October in France is Octobre Rose month to raise awareness of breast cancer, with two main events taking place at Clinique St Pierre on the 7th and 10th, and at CH Perpignan on the 9th, where CSF Sud de France hope to have a stand.

Past events

The regular Drop-in at the Villa Lafabrègue in Prades was much appreciated by the members and friends who came to attend the jewellery and cake sale. The weather was particularly kind, with a perfect late summer day to appreciate the beautiful gardens, buy some bargains, browse the paperbacks (and eat cake).

Our thanks to our small team of helpers and all the kind people who donated jewellery. 220€ was raised on the day, with plans afoot to sell more jewellery at future events and online.

Also in September, CSF had an information stand in the spacious entrance hall of Perpignan’s main hospital as part of the Septembre Turquoise event . This was to help women be better informed about gynaecological cancers, prevention, vaccination and treatment.

Looking ahead

Monday 17th November – A Special Event

The afternoon Quiz and tea party we have been planning (with cake, tea and Cava) will take place in Thuir in the Salle Léon J Gregory in the afternoon. The doors will open at 2.30, with the quiz starting at 3pm.

There will be a half-time break for refreshments and cake. Teams will be of 4 people. Numbers are limited but please reserve a table in advance for a readymade team of four, or come along to make new friends and make up a team on the day. Pay your admission on the door at 10€ per person, which includes your afternoon tea and glass of bubbly. There will be a prize for the winning team.

In addition, there will be a bottle Tombola (do donate a bottle if you can), plus the sale of CSF Christmas cards.

The observant will notice that is the same day as the Laroque drop-in and book exchange. This will still take place in the morning, thanks to our energetic team of volunteers.

Please remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help, the CSF telephone (0800 240 200) and email helplines are always open. We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time, as well as those affected by cancer.
