Swing’In Canet

The term ‘swing’ comes from the ‘swing feel’ of music and dance when the emphasis is on the off–beat or weaker pulse in the music.

With its roots in the innovative developments of the 1920s, championed by the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra and greats such as Louis Armstrong, the movement really gained ground after the First World War, when people just wanted to let their hair down and have some fun.

Swing music and dance is still just as popular today and can be seen in many forms across the modern genres.

Whether you want to learn the basics, show off your skills or just see the masters at work, head to the Théâtre Jean Piat in Canet en Roussillon over the first weekend in November for 3 days of jam-packed swinging style.

Lessons

The famous Montpellier jazz dance academy, The SWING JAMMERZ, will offer Lindy Hop classes for beginners and experienced dancers.

The Lindy Hop is the comical couple’s dance from the inter-war period that, 3 decades later, became simplified and accelerated to create rock’n’ roll dance.

If you like jazz, swing, dance and good humour, whatever your level of dance, these courses are for you!!!

Saturday 9th November

11.30am – 1pm Beginner Lindy Hop lessons
1.15pm – 2.45pm Intermediate Lindy Hop lessons
3pm – 4.30pm Advanced Lindy Hop lessons

Sunday 10th November

11.30am – 1pm Beginner Lindy Hop lessons
1.15pm – 2.45pm Intermediate Lindy Hop lessons
3pm – 4.30pm Advanced Lindy Hop lessons

Tarifs

• 1 lesson 20€ (Friday or Saturday)
• 1 lesson per day 40€ (includes tickets to evening shows)
