Every year we hold our Annual Autumn Ball, primarily to raise the profile of Cancer Support France throughout the Pyrénées-Orientales and beyond but also to raise money by selling tickets and, on the day, by encouraging everyone to try their luck on the tombola and the bottle stall and to bid for one of our super Promises at our Grand Auction. 

The stunning landscapes, light, colours and hues of the region were an inspiration to take more. Most of the photos in this exhibition are views, but there are also some extra special ones taken from my travels with my late husband, Bruce.

Zooming round the winding roads along the coast towards Banyuls-sur-mer, we pass the vines, hundreds of them, all looking rather forlorn and bare. « This is the nicest part of the life-cycle of the vine, » said my husband, « the time when you drink the wine . » There’s always something good to say about life in the P.O.!

2nd – 16th December Ice Skating in Perpignan As well as the Christmas markets on quai Vauban, and places de Catalogne, Arago and Gambetta, why not wander along to the the synthetic outdoor ice rink…

To find the best quality saffron you do not need to travel far. In the hills above Calmeilles, at the feet of Canigou, Laurent Dieval and his wife Hilde have been growing this intriguing flower since 2011.

You’ll have to be quick but if you find yourself driving down one of those tree-lined avenues where the plane trees are majestically showing off their autumn foliage and Canigou is sitting white and snow-capped against a steel-grey and blue sky – drink it in. When you come back next week the scene may have changed

Today is the sort of day when I wish I were outside with my crossword puzzle rather than in here staring at a computer screen. The leaves are clinging on stubbornly to their branches and I’m still seeing plenty of geckos darting about showing no sign of slowing down as the days get shorter and the nights get cooler.
