Alice et les Petits Guerriers
Synopsis
What can you say when a bright and beautiful little girl loses the battle against that most treacherous of enemies – cancer? How do you find the words?
Alice Brunel was just 7 years old when she passed away in 2022. ‘Alice et les Petits Guerriers’ is a sensitive and thought provoking book written by her Dad, Olivier, charting her struggle – and that of her family in Argelès – on this tragic journey.
“Once the first symptoms appear and the diagnosis is made, it’s like entering a parallel universe where kindness rubs shoulders with the reality of a relentless disease. The hospital is peopled by good fairies. Nursery nurses, auxiliary nursery nurses, doctors….. all accompany children and parents caught up in an improbable twist of fate… First hope, then doubt, then the unacceptable outcome”
Olivier finds the words that only a parent can, to describe these heartbreaking times with humility, honesty and sometimes a little humour. Hope, dignity, energy: three words to describe Alice, the child who drew life from her hospital room.
ALL PROCEEDS from book sales will be donated to the “Alice et les petits Guerriers” association, a charity created by Olivier to provide better support for hospitalised children and their parents, who are often at a loss when faced with a child’s illness. PLEASE BUY.
Good for your French and good for the soul to donate to a deserving charity supporting a devastating illness. May it never happen to you and yours!
