CSF NEWSLETTER: JUNE 2020

1st June 2020 - 30th June 2020

CSF

Hello Everyone

Over the last month or so we have gradually got to grips with this virus and with what we know and what we don’t know about how it’s transmitted and what we can do about protecting ourselves. We can follow the guidelines and take as much care as possible, but I’ve found that it’s up to me and only me to protect myself and protect others. Thus, when things are decided for us, I guess, in the end, we will each decide for ourselves.

Some of us are itching to light the green touch-paper on our social gatherings. At a picnic, distancing is easy enough but eating and drinking with a mask has been difficult! Others have got used to days with nothing in the diary, mildly hedonistic days where a power walk round the block or a trudge up the Albères is all they need.

However, now with Confinement Easing upon us, perhaps we should start stirring our stumps, as our mothers used to say.  With the opening up of restaurants, bars and campsites, I think July and August might be the time I decide to stay home and sort out my photo albums!

We have decided that there will be no CSF events until September in all our departments that make up Sud de France. This includes the Drop Ins/coffee mornings/book exchanges.

We hope we can start up again in September, but we will follow what national CSF and the French government say.

Please remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help, the CSF telephone and email helplines are always open. We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time as well as for those affected by cancer.

We will keep everyone informed of any further developments.

LOOKING AHEAD

Thursday 10th September Activity for Life Maureillas

This is our Walk for Life and although we can’t yet confirm the date, please pencil it in for now. Depending on what happens through June/July/August, we will make a decision as to whether we can successfully run this event which has been so popular in past years.

Wednesday 23rd September Cycle For Life 2020 Rochefort to Angoulême

After recent announcements we are quietly confident that the Cycle for Life will go ahead.

We will be using the Flow Velo route. The ride will take place over 4 days starting on Wednesday 23rd September in Rochefort and ending in Angoulême on Saturday lunchtime with a welcome.

The overnight stops will be at Saint-Savinien and Cognac, arriving in Angoulême on Friday evening 25th.  Some cyclists have rebooked hotels now that they are able to cycle again.

On the morning of Saturday 26th there will be a local short ride organised around the area, rather as we did at Agde a couple of years ago.  That means people can set off home or may even take the chance to stay on for a long weekend.

Further information available here.

Saturday 17th October Autumn Ball

The date is provisional for our next Autumn Ball. Government guidelines and the situation with regard to the virus will determine whether or not we can go ahead with this annual event.

I look forward to bringing good news in the coming weeks.
