A European Commission is looking into the reducing of state aid for the air industry in an attempt to eliminate government subsidies for unprofitable European airports.. The cutting of state support and subsidies for airport and airline services and structures in France could cause serious problems for low cost flights in the future.
Only the smaller airports will be eligible for support, and they will have to prove themselves worthy and the project potentially profitable!
Low cost airline Ryanair, who operates almost totally fout of the smaller airports, would fail the test for subsidy in many of the regional airports for which they at present receive funding.
The European Commission tasked with reviewing the case says that it is necessary to elimate unfair or unjustified to create fair and sustainable competition in the airline market.
Local airports that could suffer from the new ruling are Beziers, Perpignan, and Carcassonne.
