Le Tueur de la Gare, Perpignan
Catalan-American producer Patrick Taulère’s new three-part documentary film on the “Disparues de la gare de Perpignan“, made at the beginning of the summer, is due to be broadcast in early 2024 on TF1’s Grands Reportages program.
Filming for ‘Tueur de la gare’, Virginie Sauveur’s new drama series about the same killer, starts around the same time.
The ‘Perpignan station killer’ was arrested in 2014, after terrorising the region with crimes committed between 1997 and 1998. Jacques Rançon was sentenced to life imprisonment in March 2018, after being found guilty of the rapes, murders and mutilation, of 19-year-old Moktaria Chaïb and 22-year-old Marie-Hélène Gonzalez. He was also found guilty of the attempted murder of a third woman, left for dead, and the attempted rape of a fourth.
During the trial, several troubling elements were raised, suggesting that Jacques Rançon might have been involved in other crimes. A few months later, he was charged with the murder of Isabelle Mesnage in 1986 in the Somme region of France and sentenced to a further 30 years in June 2021.
