Problems for Ryanair Passengers Flying to or from Spain
There could be stormy skies ahead for Ryanir travellers!
The UGT (Union Générale des Travailleurs) in Spain is calling for a nationwide strike at Azul Handling, Ryanair’s ground handling subsidiary in Spain starting August 15 and continuing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until December 31!
The strike will impact all Spanish bases, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza, Palma, Girona, Tenerife Sur, Lanzarote, and Santiago, during during some of the busiest times: 5am to 9am, 12pm to 3pm, and 9pm to 12 midnight.
Azul Handling provides passenger services, ramp and baggage handling, aircraft towing, central baggage tracing etc for Ryanair, so any action is likely to cause major disruption.
The union is blaming Azul Handling’s alleged abusive and agressive work practices, such as penalties of up to 36 days without pay for refusing to work overtime, both regular and voluntary, obstructing ‘family-work balance rights’, and ignoring union directives and demands.
