Today we’re heading up to the cooler air of the Conflent region, land of contrast, rich in culture and history, from its snowy peaks, wild, mountainous terrain and stunning lakes, to its many pretty and peaceful villages.
The commune of Eus also encompasses another village, that of Comes. It’s an hour-long trek up the mountainside to the ruins of this abandoned village, 2 hours for the more physically challenged.
Sainte Marie la Mer may not be the most glamorous seaside destination on the ‘Côte Sableuse’ but it does have its own unique charm.

An entire quarter of the old town in Perpignan is taken up by the Palais des Rois de Majorque.
Only 13 kilometres away from the Spanish border, this walled town is a delight of narrow cobbled streets and ancient mediaeval architecture….
Swirling and eddying, forming delightful rockpools, it is a perfect picnic spot.
Think Argelès, think Saint Cyprien, think Canet…..and we immediately think beach and port. But what about the villages?
Not a drive for the faint hearted, or the easily travel sick, but for lovers of wild and remote country, it is a joy!
