Incentive to take on older employees
The government has agreed a €2,000 bonus to companies who take on employees over the age of 45.
France’s statistics for employing older workers is very poor, and many employers look unfavourably on job applicants over 45 according to a survey. Changing employers’ attitudes to age is important, particularly bearing in mind that France’s life expectancy is one of the highest in the world, so this new initiative is to encourage employers to take on the older job seeker.
Employing more mature job applicants would reduce pressure on pensions and public finances, as well as allowing companies to benefit from an older employee’s experience.
