Many foreigners in France work ’au noir’ to make ends meet. High business charges really don’t encourage registration.

A new government initiative means that anybody caught and convicted of working illegally in France can now be ’named and shamed’. Their name, working address and any other relevant information can be posted on a government website, along with the nature of the illegal work and their conviction.

According to work minister Myriam El Khomri, the aim is to prevent unfair competition and give the general public access to checking out the legality of workpeople and companies.
