Strikes in Perpignan

Teachers’ union SNUIPP (Syndicat national unitaire des instituteurs professeurs des écoles) has already planned its first strike of the year in the P-O, for  27th September.

This first protest is against the suppression of 26 jobs amongst the  4000 teaching posts of the P-O, gained by non replacement through retirement, a national policy, and despite an extra 68 children who will start school this September 2011, compared to September 2010.

This means that in some cases, classes could be well in excess of 30 students per class, although this method of non replacement of staff  creates an inequality, in which some schools will continue to be well staffed whereas other will be understaffed. The non replacement of education personnel  also applies to admin staff.
