Buying or selling property  probably involves dealing with the largest amount of money you are ever likely to handle, unless you’re a mega-wealthy tycoon! So you need to get it right!

Caroline Oliver of Trilles Immobilier gives us some tips, checks and questions to ask to find  the right agent.

Worried about finding a good Immobilier (Estate Agent)?  Here are some tips about making the right choice.

Every Immobilier or Estate agency must be registered with the Chambre de Commerce and hold a Carte Professionnel.  The owner must have one and so must every agency manager in a different shop. Every agent must be checked by The Chambre and will hold a card called an attestation from them.. Ask to see this card and check  it is in date. A good agent will be carrying this card with them on visits and estimations.

They will also be affiliated with someone like the FNAIM – Federation Nationale de Immobilier.

Also all Estate Agencies have to hold professional Insurance and must have this clearly visible in the shops.  If you are a salaried Agent the company will cover this insurance but if you are self employed, you will have to have to pay for this insurance yourself.  This is obligatory in all cases.

Next thing to do is look them up on Google or Meilleur Agent (Best Agent).  If they don’t have a good score, think twice before using them.
