If you don’t always bother charging up your phone or your Ipad before travelling, you could risk not being allowed to take the device onto your flight. The same applies to MP3 and MP4 players, cameras and camera equipment,  electric shavers and any small electrical appliances.

The DfT (Department for Transport) has informed the media that checks will now take place on UK passengers flying in or out of the UK,  to make sure that  electronic devices carried on their person or in their hand luggage can be switched on, as an extra security measure.

The DfT guidelines read as follows:
‘In line with the US advice, passengers on some routes into and out of the UK may now also be required to show that electronic devices in their hand luggage are powered up or face not being allowed to bring the device onto the aircraft.’
