There’s only a small piece of the Paris – Barcelona TGV line that isn’t super speedy now – and unfortunately that’s the line between Montpellier and Perpignan!
Due to financial problems, the plans to complete the line, making Paris Barcelona TGV all the way, have gone off the rails, and aren’t expected to be back on track for another 15 years!
Along with Bordeaux to Toulouse, and Poitiers to Limoges, the projects have been described as “investissements excessifs” and the money would be better spend improving existing lines rather than creating new ones.
It’s a scenic route for us from Perpignan to Montpellier, past the étangs de Leucate and the Canal du Midi, so there won’t be too many complaints from those not in a rush!
