Osmose: Agnes Bogaert and Christelle Romulus
By Ellen Turner Hall
Osmose represents the interaction between the two artistic universes of sculptor Agnes Bogaert and painter Christelle Romulus, currently at the Domaine Claire Mayol in Port Vendres.
I first discovered Agnes Bogaert’s sculptures many years ago when her Miniatures de Géants with their tiny heads on long stalks caught my attention. This time she has created larger pieces like The Guardian, with the same stillness and inward strength of Jaume Plensa’s monumental heads. From the four pillars of The Fortress grow five heads all facing different directions. This is what sculpture is about: it requires you to walk around 360°, to look and relook from several points of view to discover its true message.
Christelle Romulus’ works in acrylic, ink and oil are the products of multiple processes. Her experiments in colours and textures give her canvasses an almost liquid or glazed effect. With titles like Incandescence, Chaos or The heart of the universe, the artist’s abstract paintings glow with movement.
Osmose runs until 9 August. Opening hours : 10h-19h.
