We love publishing your reviews. They’re honest (mostly!) objective, (hopefully) unrelated to advertising (bien sûr!) and cover a wide range of tastes, prices, and places. You might not always agree, the chef might be having a bad day, your standards might be higher….or lower – but they give you an idea of what’s available.

AS THE SUMMER SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE, SO DO QUITE A FEW RESTAURANTS IN THE REGION. DON’T FORGET TO PHONE AHEAD AND CHECK IN ADVANCE.

OUR PICK OF THE SEASON

FRIDA’S PERPIGNAN.…..with Laura and Teddy

What can I say, I love the place!
The populaire Place Rigaud in Perpignan is a multi-cultural, working class square full of comings and goings. It is also now home to an organic, vegan restaurant, inspired by the revolutionary Mexican artist, Frida Khalo.

We’ve eaten there twice now, and both times were an absolute delight. The menu is full of ingredients and flavours from across the world and chef Jean-Claude takes the time to explain your
options, which change regularly according to the seasons!

On our last visit, we shared a selection of starters, including humus, shalima and maghreb cigars (like Asian spring rolls, but stuffed with a mouthwatering concoction of veg and North African spices). I then moved onto a colourful vegetable patras (Indian curry), while my partner devoured a seaweed and vegetable lasagne. For desert, we tested the buza, coconut milk and dried fruits, and the devilishly-good chocolate truffles!

For 3 plentiful courses and a drink (wine, beer or soft drink), we paid 28EUR per person. Considering everything is organic (where possible), fresh and homemade with love, in my opinion it was
worth every penny.

As a vegetarian, you may well think I’m biased, so don’t take my word for it, take my partner’s word for it- he’s as French and as carnivore as they come!

LES SIMIOTS, ARLES-SUR TECH….with Florence

Last week I went again to Les Simiots. I loved it!
Incredible burgers but also giant salads and meat… set menu at 13 Euros also extremely good. Really large choice of Bio wine and beers as well as the normal ones. Best to book as often full in evenings.

Went last night and definitely as superb as usual. An interesting modern building in an old village, with beautifully cooked and presented food and great service – a firm favourite for several years.

COTE FRITES, CERET…..with Nora

Restaurant/snack bar with fantastic fish and chips to remind you of the UK. They do other good things too, but the chips are the best around here I think! Eat in or take away.
