Travel info between UK and France

With Christmas just around the corner, the British Embassy in France has issued the following communiqué about travelling between the two countries.

Below are what we consider to be the key details but you can read the full article here.

Strikes

Planned industrial action in the UK in December and January may lead to delays or changes to scheduled travel between the UK and France. Please consult your travel operator for the latest updates.

Demonstrations can take place in France, often in major cities. If demonstrations do turn violent, a heavy police/gendarmerie presence is to be expected. In all cases, you should avoid demonstrations wherever possible and follow the advice of the local authorities.

Weather

Freezing weather and snow have caused disruption at many of the UK’s airports with closures at Manchester, Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted at the start of the week.

Although most airports are open again, the wintery weather is continuing to cause delays and cancellations.

Again, check with your travel operator for the latest updates.

You can also check out the Met Office website for up to date weather warnings.

General

Before you travel, check the ‘Entry requirements’ section for France’s current entry restrictions and requirements. These may change with little warning. Monitor this advice for the latest updates and stay in contact with your travel provider.

If you plan to pass through another country to return to the UK, check the travel advice for the country you’re transiting.

It is more important than ever to get travel insurance and check it provides sufficient cover.

  1. @ Janet West – My husband and I worked for nearly ten years in the holiday industry (summer and winter) and every year we were amazed by the lack of preparation/knowledge some people had. We literally had people arriving on a ferry and then contacting us as they then didn’t know how to get to the campsite (which was about a 5 hour drive away). Or when the customer thought we had moved the campsite as they had been expecting to be nearer to the airport/sea. The best one yet, we even had people turn up to the wrong campsite, in the wrong country, on the wrong day!!

  2. I’m sorry but what a juvenile piece. Do they really think we are all totally useless? Check the weather? Really?
